This policy explains what personal data Echoes ("Echoes", "we", "us") collects, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the Echoes mobile app and the website at tryechoes.app.
Who we are
Echoes is operated by Mataniah Studio, a trading name of Abayomi Adeoye, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact hello@tryechoes.app.
We are the "data controller" for the personal data described here under the UK GDPR, and we handle the data of users in Nigeria consistent with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.
What we collect
Account information — the email address you sign up with (or that Google provides if you use Google sign-in).
Voice recordings — the audio you record when you tap to talk. This requires microphone access, which you grant on first use.
Transcripts and prompts — the text transcribed from your voice, plus the follow-up answers you give, which we send to our AI provider to produce your draft.
Drafts — the written drafts Echoes generates and you keep, stored so they sync to your account across devices.
Payment information — if you subscribe, billing is handled by Google Play. Google processes your payment; we never see or store your card details.
Basic technical data — app version and device type, used to keep the app working and diagnose problems.
How we use it
To transcribe your voice and generate the draft you asked for.
To create and manage your account and sync your drafts to your devices.
To manage your subscription, billed through Google Play.
To fix bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your voice recordings or drafts to train AI models. We do not use your data for advertising.
How your voice is handled
Your recording is used to make your draft, then deleted. When you record, the audio is sent to our transcription provider to turn speech into text. After transcription, the audio is deleted — it is not stored long-term. The resulting text is sent to our AI provider to write your draft.
Who we share it with (processors)
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Echoes. They process data only on our instructions:
Supabase — hosts our database and handles sign-in. Stores your email and your saved drafts.
Groq — transcribes your voice recordings to text. Audio is deleted after transcription.
Anthropic — generates your written drafts from the transcript and your answers.
Subscription payments are handled by Google Play — we never see your card details.
Some of these providers operate servers outside the UK and Nigeria (including the United States). Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on the providers' standard contractual protections.
How long we keep it
Voice recordings: deleted after transcription.
Drafts & account: kept until you delete a draft, delete your account, or ask us to remove your data.
Payment records: handled and retained by Google Play as required for tax and accounting.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and Nigeria's NDPA you can:
Access the personal data we hold about you.
Correct data that is wrong.
Delete your account and data (see below).
Export your drafts (Settings → Export all drafts).
Object to or restrict certain processing.
Complain to a regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).
Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account and all your data at any time:
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete my account. This erases your account, drafts, and library immediately.
By email: write to hello@tryechoes.app and we'll erase your data within 30 days.
Children
Echoes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. We limit access to personal data to what's needed to run the service.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if our practices change, and revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app or by email where appropriate.
